- Hospital experience is required; general healthcare experience alone does not meet the requirement.
- Power Query and Power BI are the two most important software skills for this role and should be clearly demonstrated on the resume.
- The team currently uses DataRails and Lawson Version 10. Experience with either is a plus, not a requirement.
- Potential for direct hire if the candidate and opportunity align.
JOB PROFILE SUMMARY
The Senior Financial Analyst provides financial and analytical support. This support includes financial and operational analysis to support key management initiatives, capital and operational budgeting, labor productivity analyses, service line and margin analyses, long-term planning, and responding to ad-hoc requests as necessary. The Senior Financial Analyst should produce high-quality deliverables on time, communicate clearly and concisely, be accountable for the work product, and bring strong analytical judgment and intellectual curiosity to financial decision support.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Healthcare Administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university, OR 10-15 years of relevant professional experience in lieu of a bachelor's degree. MBA or master's degree preferred.EXPERIENCE
Minimum 5 years of financial management, financial analysis, accounting, or decision-support experience within an acute-care hospital/facility environment.CERTIFICATIONS
CPA preferred, not required.TECHNICAL SKILLS
- Advanced Power Query experience - highest priority.
- Strong Power BI experience - highest priority; experience building and working with dashboards, reports, data models, or financial reporting is preferred.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, SUMIFS, complex formulas, and financial modeling.
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP and hospital financial/accounting principles.
- Experience with DataRails is a plus, not required.
- Experience with Lawson Version 10 is a plus, not required.
- Experience supporting an ERP implementation or transition is a plus, not required.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Working knowledge of acute-care hospital operations.
- Hands-on experience with annual budgeting, including volume, revenue, and expense planning and reconciliation.
- Experience with decision support, finance/accounting analysis, productivity analysis, and budget-to-actual review.
- Ability to perform highly technical financial analysis and translate data into actionable insights for leaders.
- Intellectual curiosity and the ability to investigate variances, trends, and operational drivers rather than only produce reports.
- Ability to work independently and productively in a fast-paced environment with minimal day-to-day instruction.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-management skills.
- Ability to plan and coordinate projects from start to finish, set and meet objectives, budgets, and deadlines.
- Accountability for producing high-quality, timely work products and maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform ad hoc financial analyses, including pro formas, long-term plans, capital request evaluations, ROI analysis, service line analytics, and other assigned requests. (Approximately 50%)
- Support annual budget preparation and monthly budget reconciliation, including volume, revenue, and expense analysis. (Approximately 20%)
- Provide day-to-day financial support to leaders and staff, including AP, payroll, accounting, and general financial support. (Approximately 10%)
- Perform entity-level financial analyses, including month-end financial review and reconciliation. (Approximately 10%)
- Serve as a liaison between Howard University Hospital, Howard University, and FPP. (Approximately 5%)
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities appropriate to the position and area. (Approximately 5%)
- Operate with limited day-to-day instruction and general direction on new assignments.
