This role is ideal for a highly organized, detail-oriented professional who enjoys working independently while collaborating with leadership and staff to ensure the organization's financial health. The Accounting Manager will oversee accounting functions, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, financial reporting, budgeting support, and donor/member billing. The ideal candidate has strong nonprofit accounting experience, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative environment. Key Responsibilities Accounting & Financial Management Maintain accurate financial records using QuickBooks. Record and reconcile bank, credit card, and investment account activity. Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable. Process payroll. Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts. Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules. Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management. Monitor operating liquidity and upcoming financial obligations. Develop and maintain sound internal financial controls and procedures. Participate in annual audit/review activities, tax filings, and year-end reporting. Work independently while communicating proactively with organizational leadership. Billing & Database Administration Manage member, donor, tuition, and program billing through the organization's membership management system. Prepare and maintain recurring billing, pledges, donations, and payment plans. Process and reconcile online payments and other financial transactions. Ensure accurate synchronization between the membership database and QuickBooks. Work closely with staff to maintain accurate financial and constituent records. Fund & Grant Accounting Track restricted and designated funds in accordance with nonprofit accounting standards. Record donor-restricted contributions and designated gifts accurately. Monitor financial activity for programs, departments, committees, and special initiatives. Reconcile fund balances and prepare supporting reports. Maintain compliance with nonprofit accounting best practices. Qualifications Minimum of 7 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience. Experience with nonprofit accounting strongly preferred. Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks. Experience processing payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting. Ability to manage accounting operations independently. Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion. Strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative, service-oriented approach. Experience with Bill.com preferred. Experience with membership management or donor database software is preferred (ShulCloud experience is a plus but not required).
