Job Description

The Project Accounting Manager oversees project accounting operations for assigned business units while serving as a strategic financial partner to operational leadership. This role manages project accounting staff, drives accurate financial reporting, supports cash flow management, identifies financial risks, and ensures compliance with accounting and contract requirements.

Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Team ManagementLead, mentor, and develop a team of project accounting professionals.

Oversee daily accounting operations to ensure accuracy and timeliness.

Support recruiting, onboarding, training, and performance management activities.

Balance workloads, promote collaboration, and foster employee development.

Project Accounting & Financial OversightServe as the lead project accountant for assigned business units.

Ensure accurate revenue recognition, job costing, cost allocations, journal entries, and financial reporting.

Review project financial activity and resolve accounting discrepancies.

Analyze project profitability and provide actionable recommendations.

Business PartnershipPartner with operational leadership on forecasting, budgeting, and financial planning.

Review project projections, billing forecasts, and financial performance.

Identify financial risks and opportunities and provide proactive solutions.

Support users with financial systems, reporting tools, and accounting processes.

Accounts Receivable & Contract AdministrationOversee project setup, contract administration, invoicing, and collections.

Monitor aging receivables and work with stakeholders to resolve outstanding balances.

Escalate significant collection or financial concerns as needed.

Drive initiatives that improve working capital and cash flow.

Accounts Payable & Operational SupportCoordinate with accounts payable teams to address vendor and payment issues.

Review purchasing activities, payment requests, and supporting documentation.

Assist with audits, recurring financial reports, intercompany transactions, and special projects.

Maintain compliance with record retention and documentation requirements.
