Job Description
A construction organization in the North San Diego area is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager for a direct hire opportunity. This is a key accounting leadership role for a hands-on professional who understands construction accounting, job costing, WIP reporting, certified payroll, and financial statement preparation. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with ownership and play a direct role in financial operations, process accuracy, reporting, compliance, and overall business support. Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, HR-related accounting, billing, and collections.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements, reconciliations, general ledger activity, and escrow account balances.
- Manage construction accounting functions, including WIP reporting, job costing, project financial reporting, certified payroll, and prevailing wage requirements.
- Coordinate with outside CPAs, banks, bonding companies, insurance providers, and outside agencies for reporting, renewals, audits, tax preparation, and compliance matters.
- Support contractor registrations, certifications, prequalification documentation, bond requests, insurance compliance, claims management, and minor tax filings.
- Provide financial reporting and analysis to ownership while supporting accounting and administrative staff as needed. Compensation and Benefits

Location:
Poway, CA area.- Salary range: $85,000 to $120,000 per year, depending on experience.
- 2 weeks paid vacation after the first year.

- 7 paid holidays. Required Qualifications and Skills
- Oversee accounting operations for a construction business, including AP, AR, payroll, billing, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Manage WIP reporting, job costing, certified payroll, prevailing wage accounting, and project financial reporting.
- Coordinate financial close, tax preparation, insurance renewals, bonding matters, bank requirements, and compliance documentation.
- Provide accurate reporting and analysis to ownership while maintaining strong internal controls and GAAP compliance.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong construction accounting experience required.
- Experience with Foundation for Construction software required.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial statement preparation.
- Experience with WIP reporting, job costing, certified payroll, and prevailing wage requirements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Ability to communicate effectively with ownership, employees, CPAs, banks, bonding companies, insurance providers, and outside agencies.
- Highly organized, dependable, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize multiple deadlines.
- Hands-on leadership style with the ability to support accounting and administrative personnel. Preferred Qualifications
- General engineering contractor or related construction industry experience.
- Experience working directly with banks, bonding companies, insurance providers, and outside CPAs.
- Knowledge of contractor registrations, certifications, insurance compliance, and customer prequalification documentation.
- Stable employment history with demonstrated longevity.
