full-time Accounting Manager | Opportunity for Growth with Guidance from Excellent Executive Team Privately held industrial manufacturing company with annual revenue under $200 million Chicago, IL | Hybrid, three days onsite per week A well-established industrial manufacturer is hiring an Accounting Manager as the company strengthens its accounting leadership structure. This is a hands-on role for someone who can own the close, review complex accounting work, develop staff, and work directly with the Controller. The position offers meaningful visibility, a stable team, and the opportunity to grow into broader leadership responsibilities over time. Responsibilities Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close Review journal entries and supporting workpapers Prepare financial statements Analyze financial results for monthly review meetings Maintain the integrity of the general ledger Oversee fixed assets and inventory-related accounting Manage and develop one to two accounting professionals Support external audit requests and account reconciliations Partner with FP&A, cost accounting, treasury, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and HR Improve close procedures and identify opportunities to automate journal entries Build, maintain, and troubleshoot complex Excel workbooks and formulas Assist with ad hoc projects, including gathering financial documentation for tax and operational initiatives Travel to another Midwest location approximately once per quarter for a few days Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field Approximately seven years of progressive accounting experience At least three years of public accounting experience, preferably in audit Corporate accounting experience within a manufacturing environment Demonstrated ownership of the month-end close Strong general ledger, financial reporting, and journal entry experience Experience assisting with external audits Working knowledge of inventory accounting Prior staff supervision, training, or review responsibility Advanced Excel skills, including the ability to create and repair formulas, links, lookups, and pivot tables Experience with SAP or another major ERP system Ability to operate effectively in a hands-on, mid-sized company environment Strong follow-through, sound judgment, and a consistent commitment to deadlines Comfortable communicating across accounting, finance, operations, payroll, and HR Preferred Qualifications CPA Public accounting audit background Experience with complex inventory Cost accounting exposure Experience improving or automating close processes Why Consider This Opportunity Direct partnership with the Controller and exposure to senior financial leadership Clear ownership of the close and core accounting operations Opportunity to become a trusted backup to the Controller Long-term potential to grow into broader accounting leadership Stable organization with long-tenured employees Collaborative environment with the resources of an established company and the accessibility of a smaller team Free onsite parking Hybrid flexibility Core business hours with reasonable flexibility around start time Compensation Base salary: $115,000 to $135,000 Bonus eligibility Benefits The company offers a competitive benefits package.
