You will be the person our attorneys and leadership rely on to keep client funds protected, settlements moving on time, and the books airtight. The right person combines deep trust accounting knowledge with strong general accounting skills and the judgment to build, enforce, and continuously improve financial processes as the firm grows. What You'll Do Trust Accounting and Compliance Own the firm's trust and operating accounts, including IOLTA accounts in multiple states Ensure compliance with each state bar's trust accounting rules and keep audit-ready records at all times Oversee trust-to-operating transfers with proper documentation of earned fees and recovered costs Establish and enforce internal controls over client funds, check issuance, and account access Settlements and Disbursements Own the settlement distribution process from signed release to final disbursement across all offices Prepare and review settlement statements, verifying that attorney fees, case costs, public adjuster fees, and lien resolutions are calculated correctly Issue and track client and third-party disbursements, maintaining clean records of every settlement Serve as the point of contact for settlement and disbursement questions from attorneys, staff, and clients Accounts Payable, Reporting, and Process Process and pay firm expenses, vendor invoices, and case costs, tracking case costs by matter so they are properly recovered at settlement Own the general ledger and lead the monthly close, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports for firm leadership Monitor cash flow across operating accounts and multiple offices and report on trends and variances Oversee payroll processing in coordination with the firm's payroll provider Coordinate with the firm's outside CPA on tax filings, year-end close, and any audits or reviews Build, document, and continuously improve the firm's financial procedures and controls Support annual budgeting and forecasting for the firm What We're Looking For Required 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including hands-on law firm trust or IOLTA accounting Demonstrated command of three-way trust reconciliation Hands-on experience preparing financial statements Experience managing settlement disbursements, ideally in a plaintiff-side contingency-fee practice Experience building or enforcing financial controls and procedures Proficiency with QuickBooks or similar accounting software and strong Excel skills Meticulous attention to detail and discretion with sensitive financial information Clear written and verbal communication skills, including proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Excel, SharePoint) Preferred (not required) CPA, CLM, or a degree in accounting or finance Experience with multi-state or multi-office law firm operations and the trust accounting rules of multiple jurisdictions Basic understanding of property insurance claims and/or personal injury cases Experience with legal case management systems Who Thrives in This Role You'll do well here if you treat client funds as sacred, take full ownership of the numbers, and hold yourself to a standard where every dollar is accounted for. This is a role for someone who wants to run and build a financial function, not just process transactions. If you can keep a multi-state trust operation clean, close the books on time, spot a problem before it becomes one, and be trusted with the most sensitive information in the firm, we want to talk to you. How to Apply We want to ensure that all applicants have a fair and equal chance, so we're using a TestGorilla assessment (https://app.testgorilla.com/s/jz9kx87n).
