Job Description
We partnering with a leading federal credit union that is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to lead core accounting operations and support accurate, timely financial reporting for the organization in Bethesda, Maryland. This role partners closely with senior finance leadership to guide the close process, strengthen internal controls, and help shape budgeting and forecasting activities. The ideal candidate brings strong industry experience within Credit Unions or Banking, operational accounting knowledge, leadership experience, and the ability to work effectively across departments in a regulated financial environment.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the day-to-day work of the accounting function, setting priorities and ensuring the team operates efficiently and accurately.
- Guide, mentor, and evaluate accounting personnel, including participating in hiring, onboarding, coaching, and performance management.
- Direct monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities, including oversight of journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and general ledger accuracy.
- Prepare and review financial reports in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and applicable regulatory expectations.
- Support the development of annual budgets, forecasts, and financial analyses in collaboration with finance leadership.
- Maintain and enhance internal controls and accounting procedures to safeguard assets and improve reporting reliability.
- Manage balance sheet activity for areas such as fixed assets, prepaid items, borrowings, participation loans, corporate accounts, and settlement accounts.
- Coordinate audit and examination support by organizing documentation and responding to requests from external auditors and regulators.
- Contribute to new initiatives, product or service launches, and process or system enhancements by aligning accounting structures and operational needs.
- Oversee preparation of the quarterly call report, ensuring complete, accurate, and compliant regulatory filing.
