90k-120k Our client near Downtown Cleveland, OH has retained us to find their next Accounting Manager with construction industry experience. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on, detail-oriented accounting professional who can partner effectively with an outside consultant and the internal accounting team to support accurate financial reporting, accounting operations, and process improvement. Job Overview The Accounting Manager will support the day-to-day accounting function for a growing construction company, working closely with the outside consultant, accounting team, and company leadership. This role will help ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, maintain strong accounting processes, support job cost accounting, and provide visibility into the financial performance of the business. The Accounting Manager should bring a strong understanding of accounting principles, construction-related accounting practices, and a collaborative, hands-on approach. Key Responsibilities Financial Reporting and Analysis Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in partnership with the outside consultant. Conduct job cost analysis, including tracking project budgets and cost variances. Provide clear financial reporting and analysis to company leadership to support informed decision-making. Budgeting and Forecasting Support the annual budgeting process in collaboration with leadership, project managers, the accounting team, and the outside consultant. Monitor and analyze budget performance, providing insights and recommendations for adjustments. Assist with forecasting and financial planning to support project bidding, cash flow visibility, and business planning. Accounting Operations Manage daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll support, general ledger activity, and account reconciliations. Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end closings. Support and maintain internal controls, accounting procedures, and documentation to promote accuracy and consistency. Project Accounting Support construction project accounting, including contract administration, billing, collections, and coordination with project managers. Ensure accurate recording of job costs, labor, materials, and subcontractor expenses. Assist in tracking and reporting on project profitability, work-in-progress, and cash flow. Cash Management Monitor cash flow activity and assist leadership with visibility into liquidity needs, project commitments, and working capital requirements. Coordinate with banking partners and the outside consultant as needed to support treasury and cash management activities. Compliance and Audits Support compliance with GAAP, tax requirements, and construction industry-specific accounting practices. Assist with external audit preparation, internal control reviews, and requests from the outside consultant. Help implement, maintain, and improve accounting policies, procedures, and reporting practices. Team Collaboration Work alongside and support the accounting team, providing guidance, training, and day-to-day assistance as needed. Serve as a key liaison between the internal accounting team, outside consultant, project managers, and company leadership. Systems and Process Improvement Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting accuracy, and workflow efficiency. Support the use and optimization of accounting systems, construction accounting software, and related technology tools. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred). Minimum of 4+ years of progressive accounting experience in construction, project accounting, or a related industry. Solid knowledge of GAAP and familiarity with construction industry accounting practices, job costing, and work-in-progress reporting. Experience with construction accounting software and ERP systems preferred; experience with Sage 300, Procore, Viewpoint, or similar systems is a plus. Intermediate to Advanced Excel skills required Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to work independently while also collaborating closely with an outside consultant, accounting team, project managers, and company leadership.
