Job Description
Accounting Manager Position Summary The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing key accounting and financial operations for a growing transportation company. This role manages treasury functions, supports the monthly financial close process, prepares financial reporting, ensures balance sheet integrity through timely reconciliations, and assists with budgeting and forecasting activities. The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting knowledge with analytical skills and a proactive approach to continuous process improvement. Key Responsibilities Treasury Management Execute daily treasury activities, including cash positioning, cash flow monitoring, and liquidity management. Monitor cash balances, transfers, and funding requirements across multiple operating entities. Financial Close & General Accounting Assist in the financial close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting. Review journal entries, account analyses, and supporting schedules. Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and company accounting policies. Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy. Financial Reporting Assist with preparation of monthly financial statements and management reporting packages. Analyze operating results and explain variances to budget, forecast, and prior-period performance. Develop financial reports and dashboards to support business leaders and operational management. Balance Sheet Reconciliations & Internal Controls Manage and review monthly balance sheet reconciliations to ensure completeness and accuracy. Investigate and resolve reconciling items on a timely basis. Maintain strong internal controls over financial reporting and accounting processes. Support internal and external audits by providing requested schedules and documentation. Monitor compliance with company policies and established financial controls. Forecasting & Budgeting Assist in the annual budgeting process and periodic financial forecasting activities. Partner with operations and departmental leaders to gather assumptions and develop financial plans. Analyze actual results against budget and forecast expectations. Support rolling forecasts, capital expenditure planning, and strategic financial initiatives. Identify trends, risks, and opportunities impacting company performance. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. 5+ years of progressive accounting experience. Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles. Experience with month-end close processes and balance sheet reconciliations. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Preferred CPA or CPA candidate preferred. Experience in transportation, logistics, trucking, or fleet-based industries Experience with treasury management Experience with ERP systems and business intelligence tools.
