Position Overview:
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), the Commercial Finance Manager plays a critical role in driving profitable revenue growth by bringing financial discipline to commercial strategy, product innovation, and go-to-market decision making. This position serves as the primary finance business partner for Sales, Customer & Sales Strategy, Marketing, Research & Development, Procurement, and Manufacturing Finance, providing data-driven insights that optimize pricing, product portfolio, and customer profitability. The Commercial Finance Manager owns the financial analysis supporting the Stage Gate product development process, from initial business case development through post-launch performance evaluation. This role develops robust product and customer P&Ls, evaluates margin performance across SKUs, customers, and packaging formats, performs sensitivity analyses on key cost drivers, and delivers actionable recommendations that support strategic growth initiatives. As the commercial finance function continues to evolve, this role will also lead the development of trade promotion and commercial investment analytics to improve return on investment and profitability.
Responsibilities:
Serve as the strategic finance business partner to Sales, Customer Strategy, Marketing, R D, Procurement, and Manufacturing Finance by providing financial analysis and recommendations that support profitable commercial decision making. Own the financial workstream for the Stage Gate product development process, including business case development, target cost and margin modeling, product P&Ls, investment analysis, post-launch performance reviews, and ongoing profitability assessments. Develop and manage customer, product, and SKU-level profitability analyses, identifying opportunities to improve gross margin, optimize portfolio performance, and support revenue growth strategies. Lead pricing analysis and financial modeling by evaluating pricing strategies, customer profitability, competitive positioning, and margin impacts to support commercial negotiations and market competitiveness. Evaluate changes in standard cost materials, ingredients, packaging, labor and overhead assumptions between like SKUs. Perform competitive analysis, margin sensitivity modeling, and scenario planning to assess the financial impact of changing input costs, packaging configurations, customer mix, and other key business drivers. Prepare and present recurring and ad hoc financial reports, dashboards, and executive-level analyses by integrating data from multiple systems to deliver clear, actionable business insights. Partner with the FP&A team to incorporate commercial initiatives, product launches, and revenue strategies into the Annual Operating Plan, forecasts, and long-range financial planning processes. Establish and continuously enhance commercial finance capabilities, including the development of trade promotion and commercial investment analytics to measure program effectiveness and maximize return on investment. Provide other ad hoc financial analysis support as needed; including but not limited to overall Finance process improvement, scenario modeling, risk assessment(s), month-end close and building KPI dashboards.
Experience and Skills:
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in: Finance/Business, Economics, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and progressive professional experience. 5+ years of progressive experience in Commercial Finance, Pricing, or related financial analysis roles, preferably within the Food & Beverage, CPG, or manufacturing industries. Demonstrated experience developing financial models, business cases, profitability analyses, and executive-level recommendations to support commercial decision making. Strong understanding of product costing, gross margin analysis, customer profitability, pricing strategy, and financial planning concepts. Advanced Excel skills, including complex financial modeling and data analysis, with experience leveraging BI/data visualization tools such as Power BI. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills with the ability to synthesize complex data into clear business insights and recommendations. Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and build strong business partnerships across all levels of the organization.
