ABOUT THIS ROLE
The Accounting Manager oversees the day-to-day accounting operations of Rock Creek Church, managing 1-2 direct reports and executing the financial systems and policies established by church leadership. This is a full-time role that reports to the Executive Pastor of Operations and serves as the primary point of contact with our outside CPA firm for reconciliation and payroll, ensuring accurate, audit-ready records and a smooth month-end close.CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounting Operations & Team Supervision- Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries
- Supervise and support 1-2 direct reports, including training on systems and procedures
- Serve as the primary point of contact with our outside CPA firm for monthly reconciliation and payroll processing
- Ensure accurate and timely month-end close each period
- Maintain organized, up-to-date financial records and supporting documentation Financial Systems & Vendor Management
- Maintain and execute financial systems, including Xero, ApprovalMax, Bill.com Spend & Expense, Pushpay, and Benevity
- Process vendor payment requests in accordance with the Vendor Approval Process
- Reconcile monthly credit card statements against submitted receipts and approved budgets
- Flag miscoded, missing, or unusual transactions for follow-up before month-end close Policy Compliance & Reporting Support
- Ensure compliance with RCC's Financial Policy and Procedures and Credit Card Policy
- Prepare monthly financial reports and account reconciliations for review by the Executive Pastor of Operations
- Support annual audit preparation and related documentation requests
- Maintain accurate records for stock, securities, and cryptocurrency gifts in accordance with policy
- Assist with budget tracking, variance reporting, and departmental spend monitoring
QUALIFICATIONS

- High level of discretion, integrity, and confidentiality in handling sensitive financial and personnel information
- Strong relational skills and a genuine heart for serving staff well Skills & Experience
- 3-5+ years of progressive accounting experience; nonprofit or church experience preferred
- Experience with Xero or similar general ledger / accounting software
- Familiarity with Bill.com, Ramp, ApprovalMax, or similar expense and approval platforms preferred
- Working knowledge of fund accounting principles preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and comfortable learning new financial systems
- Ability to communicate clearly with a bookkeeper, CPA firm, and non-finance staff alike Education
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred
- Equivalent professional accounting or bookkeeping experience will be considered in place of a degree

Month-end close is completed accurately and on schedule every period. Financial records stay clean and audit-ready throughout the year. The relationship with our outside CPA firm runs smoothly, with no surprises at reconciliation or payroll. Accounting staff are trained, supported, and clear on expectations, and the Executive Pastor of Operations has reliable visibility into the church's financial health.WORK SCHEDULE & CLASSIFICATION
