Job Description

Description We are looking for an experienced accountant to oversee accounting operations and guide financial planning for a non-profit organization in Spokane, Washington. This role combines strategic oversight with hands-on management of reporting, controls, grant compliance, and day-to-day financial activities. The ideal candidate can communicate financial insights clearly to leadership, support strong operational decision-making, and foster a high-performing finance team.
Responsibilities:
  • Advise executive leadership, the finance committee, and the board on financial strategy, performance, and organizational risks.
  • Direct the budgeting cycle, forecasting process, cash planning, and long-range financial modeling to support sustainable growth.
  • Produce timely financial reports and analyses that help leaders and board members make informed decisions.
  • Manage core accounting functions, including close activities, reconciliations, payables, receivables, payroll-related coding, ledger integrity, and financial statement preparation.
  • Improve internal controls, purchasing practices, approval structures, and documentation standards to strengthen financial accuracy and accountability.
  • Oversee grant-related financial administration by tracking restricted funding, submitting reimbursement requests, monitoring spending, and meeting reporting obligations.
  • Reduce financial risk by addressing coding issues, preventing missed funding deadlines, minimizing unspent grant balances, and supporting timely billing.
  • Coordinate audit readiness efforts, assist with annual tax form review, and maintain compliance with funder and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop finance team members while partnering with departments on staffing, program needs, and financial planning priorities.

  • Demonstrated experience in nonprofit finance, accounting, or fund accounting leadership roles.
  • Proficiency in month-end close, general ledger management, journal entries, and financial statement preparation.
  • Knowledge of grant accounting is preferred.
  • Solid background in internal controls, account reconciliations, audit support, and nonprofit financial reporting.
  • Experience building and managing budgets, forecasts, cash flow projections, dashboards, and variance analysis.
  • Ability to present complex financial information clearly to executives, board members, and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Proven leadership skills with experience supervising staff and improving finance processes.
