OVERVIEW
The Department staff administer and enforce the tax revenue laws of the Tribe and other laws and duties assigned to it by law, regulation and the Tribal Council. The Department shall have all the powers and duties prescribed by law or assigned to it by the Tribal Council for such purposes. The Department Tax & Licensing Specialist shall: Under supervision of the Director, the Tax & Licensing Specialist is responsible for working directly with customers in person, in writing or via telephone phone to assist with compliance with the Business and Professions Code licensing requirement and Title 20 Taxation Code and Health & Safety Code, Article 2. Liquor taxation. This role includes the monitoring of transactions occurring within the reservation boundaries through physical surveillance in person and online, locating unlicensed businesses and/or non-compliant taxpayers subject to the Tribe's jurisdiction.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
Educating and assisting the general public in obtaining the types of licensing required by the Tribe and collecting and reporting of tribal taxes Answering complex questions, and resolving customer questions and issues relating to completing the business license application and/or tax return form. This may include interacting with customers who may be emotionally charged Interpreting tribal codes, ordinances, and policies regarding the various licenses and providing explanations to the customers Review business applications and tax returns for accuracy and completeness of required information Receive and process business license fees and tax return payments for tax due through payment software in person and electronically Process business license applications through software system and maintain business license data and listings Maintain and routinely review tax and licensing software to ensure all tax payments are properly posted and all business information is kept up to date Assist Director in preparing and organizing all correspondence for the Liquor Control Board and the processing of Liquor Licenses Reviewing accounts receivable balances and creating workpapers and case files for any license fee or tax due for the Revenue Collection Officer and/or Tax Examiner/Auditor Follow clerical procedures for processing incoming and outgoing correspondence, keeping track of time sensitive license and tax notices Maintain integrity and security of database for tribal revenue and source data Perform day-to-day activities independently within established guidelines and procedures under general supervision Maintain a team effort, collaborate and work together with Director and Tax Examiner/Auditors to complete projects, reports or other assignments Maintain a working relationship and communicate, coordinate and collaborate with other tribal departments and enterprises Other duties may be assigned at the discretion of the Director or designee to fulfill the Department's needs, objectives, and/or goals Follow established Tribal policies and those outlined in the Colorado River Indian Tribes Employee Handbook

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or G.E.D. Valid driver's license
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in accounting, taxation, finance, business administration, law or a related field Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or GED, supplemented by college coursework in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field Three (3) to five (5) years of progressively responsible experience, in a business office environment involving steady public contact, and dealing with confidential records
