Job Description

The City of Seal Beach is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Intern to support the City Manager's Office. This position provides an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in pursuing a career in local government. Under general supervision, the Intern will perform developmental-level professional and administrative work and participate in a variety of projects that support organization-wide initiatives. The position offers exposure to municipal operations, including interaction with City staff, elected officials, and the public. Duties may include, but are not limited to: Perform administrative, research, and analytical support for the City Manager's Office Assist with projects and programs impacting one or more City departments Respond to citizen inquiries and service requests; escalate complex issues as appropriate Coordinate and communicate with multiple City departments to support operational efficiency Attend and assist with meetings, including City Council and subcommittee meetings, as assigned Prepare reports, correspondence, and presentation materials Perform other related duties as assigned
Knowledge of:
Basic principles of municipal government operations Office practices, procedures, and equipment Microsoft Office and general computer applications Ability to: Conduct research and present findings clearly Organize and manage multiple tasks and priorities Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment Work independently with minimal supervision after initial training Interact professionally with the public, staff, and elected officials
Education & Experience:
Current enrollment in an accredited college or university Major coursework in Public Administration, Public Policy, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field No prior work experience is required. Licenses & Requirements Valid California Class C Driver's License Acceptable driving record and proof of insurance The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, eager to learn, and able to work effectively in a team-oriented environment. Strong organizational and time management skills are essential, along with the ability to adapt to various software programs and work assignments.
