Job Summary The Athletics Business Operations Student Assistant supports the daily financial and administrative functions of the Athletics Business Office. This position provides hands-on experience in collegiate athletics business management, with a specific focus on revenue tracking, expense reconciliation, purchasing and budgeting. The Student Assistant will assist in ensuring that all department transactions align with University, conference, and NCAA policies and procedures.
Job Description Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in the preparation, review, and maintenance of annual operating budgets for athletic programs and administrative units. Support the monthly reconciliation of departmental accounts, verifying accuracy of expenditures and identifying budget variances. Help compile financial data and prepare internal budget reports for coaches, sport administrators, and senior leadership. Assist with forecasting and year-end budget projections to support financial planning and resource allocation. Assist in monitoring and reporting all athletics revenue accounts, including ticket sales, game guarantees, sponsorships, and other external income streams. Support the preparation of monthly revenue reports and dashboards to aid in financial decision-making. Help coordinate the invoicing, billing, and collection of external payments related to athletic events, corporate sponsorships, and facility rentals. Collaborate with the ticket office, marketing, and development units to ensure accurate revenue recording and timely deposit of funds. Conduct research and compile data for special projects, audits, and financial analysis as assigned. Contribute to the review and improvement of business processes designed to enhance operational efficiency and maximize department revenue. Assist in preparing financial summaries and data analysis for senior leadership and annual NCAA financial reporting.
Other duties:
Perform other office tasks assigned to support the overall operations of the Athletics Department.
Additional Job Description Required Qualifications:
Admission and active enrollment in a University program. Strong quantitative, analytical, and organizational skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data management tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
Some experience in business, accounting, finance, or collegiate athletics administration. Familiarity with financial management systems (e.g., Workday, Banner, etc.).
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Skill in organizing resources and maintaining detailed records Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality when handling academic records and sensitive student information. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both individual and group settings. Ability to work independently, manage multiple responsibilities, and meet deadlines. Excellent communication skills and attention to detail. Ability to handle confidential information and work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
