offers the opportunity to serve the community while building a stable career in local government. Role Description The Finance Specialist is a full-time, on-site role based in Wamego, KS. This position is responsible for supporting the city's financial operations, assisting with budgeting, and preparing and reconciling financial statements. The Finance Specialist will monitor financial transactions for accuracy, help maintain accounting records, and support month-end and year-end close activities. The role also includes preparing financial reports for internal stakeholders, responding to inquiries from departments, and contributing to process improvements that ensure compliance with applicable policies and regulations. Qualifications Candidates should possess strong Finance knowledge and experience working with Financial Statements. Candidates should possess solid Accounting skills and familiarity with standard accounting practices and software. Candidates should possess strong Analytical Skills to interpret data, identify variances, and support decision-making. Candidates should possess effective Communication skills for collaborating with internal departments and presenting financial information clearly. Relevant education such as an associate or bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field is preferred. Experience in public sector or municipal finance, and knowledge of governmental accounting standards, is beneficial. Attention to detail, integrity in handling sensitive financial data, and the ability to meet deadlines in a structured environment are important.
