Job Description

Reports To:
Senior Minister Location:
This position can be performed largely remotely, however there will be times when on-site coordination with church staff, church treasurer, and the Board of Finance and Property will be required each month.
Function:
Provide accurate, timely, and confidential financial recordkeeping and support for the church's financial operations. This role ensures smooth day-to-day financial processes, maintains donor and vendor records, and serves as the primary liaison with the church's external accounting firm. The Bookkeeper supports the mission of the church by helping steward financial resources with integrity, transparency, and care.
Hours:
10-15 hours per week (flexible schedule)
Wages:
$25-35/hour based on candidate's experience and qualifications
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent relevant training/experience
  • Experience with bookkeeping and financial recordkeeping required; nonprofit or church experience preferred
  • Familiarity with online financial systems such as Bill.com, Quickbooks, and payroll processing platforms
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and financial reporting
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
  • High level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential financial information
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general accounting software
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Support Church's mission, philosophies, values, goals, and policies
Responsibilities:
:
  • Process payroll, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and internal policies
  • Manage the church's Bill.com account, including processing reimbursement requests, entering vendors, and managing accounts payable workflows
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records :
  • Record and maintain donor giving records in the church database
  • Assist in preparing contribution statements as needed
  • Coordinate with staff and leadership to ensure accuracy of giving records :
  • Work closely with Your Part-Time Controller to provide necessary documentation and reports
  • Assist in monthly reconciliations and preparation of financial statements
  • Ensure timely and accurate flow of financial information between the church and external partners :
  • Assist with financial recordkeeping for audits or annual reporting
  • Support the Director of Operations as needed
  • Maintain organized and accessible financial documentation
Termination:
The Part-Time Bookkeeper is an at-will employee of the church. Proper notice is 2 weeks written notice from either party. This period may be adjusted by mutual agreement. The church may substitute compensation for notice.
