Job Description

Introduction The Department of Corrections, Division of Juvenile Corrections, is focused on public safety through the custody and supervision of youth placed in our care. Juvenile Corrections employees have the opportunity to positively impact the lives of youth through careers in a variety of fields. Using evidence-based approaches, employees implement lasting change with a positive impact for the people of Wisconsin. The Department of Corrections is currently recruiting to fill two Financial Specialist Senior positions, located at the Milwaukee Youth Facility in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Position Summary One position is responsible for the preparation of various financial reports, including required monthly, quarterly, and annual reports; facilitation of the institution purchasing, storeroom Inventory purchasing, reconciliation, and reporting, and providing assistance to other Financial Specialist functions. This position operates PeopleSoft and Vendornet in the preparation of a wide variety of reports and transactions as needed. The second position is responsible for accounting and record keeping work for the facility, applying established accounting and bookkeeping duties to include reconciliations and audits. Salary Information This position is in pay schedule and range 02-13 with a starting pay of $29.28/hour. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A probationary period is required. Qualifications Applicants will be assessed on relevant experience, including the following: Modern bookkeeping, purchasing and procurement, policies and procedures, accounting & auditing practices and principles; working knowledge and usage of MS-Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access) state accounting systems, and the Internet; ability to understand and follow complex written and oral instructions; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and the public; and identify issues and follow through with problem solving techniques.
