Finance & Loan Services Specialist Wild Rivers Habitat for Humanity | Spooner, WI $18-$20/hour | 24-32 hours/week | In-person | Flexible daytime schedule A Finance Job Where the Numbers Mean Something Wild Rivers Habitat for Humanity is seeking a Finance & Loan Services Specialist to join our small, mission-driven team. This isn't a traditional bookkeeping position. You'll work across nonprofit finance, mortgage servicing, affordable housing lending, homebuyer readiness, and donor stewardship—all while supporting our mission of building and repairing homes and helping people remain safely and affordably housed throughout northwest Wisconsin. You don't need to come to us knowing affordable housing finance or USDA lending. We're looking for someone with a solid foundation in bookkeeping, accounting, banking, lending, or financial services who is organized, comfortable working with both numbers and people, and ready to learn. We'll invest in the specialized training. What You'll Do Finance & Accounting Work alongside existing bookkeeping staff to support accurate financial records and reporting. Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close-out processes, reconciliations, and financial reporting. Coordinate recurring financial responsibilities such as sales tax reporting and scheduled loan/debt payments. Assist with preparation for our annual financial audit, workers' compensation audit, and other recurring financial or compliance reporting. Take on additional financial administration responsibilities as your knowledge of our organization and systems grows. Mortgage Servicing Help transition servicing of our Habitat-held mortgages in-house. Process and track payments, billing, statements, and homeowner account activity. Maintain escrow, property tax, insurance, and mortgage servicing records. Complete escrow analyses, servicing reports, and routine homeowner communications. USDA Loan Packaging & Homebuyer Readiness Assist applicants pursuing
USDA 502
homeownership and 504 home repair financing. Collect, review, organize, and track application documentation. Help applicants understand the process and financial preparation involved in becoming mortgage-ready. Help prepare and track loan packages for submission to USDA Rural Development. Help increase awareness of our loan packaging services among prospective applicants, community organizations, and referral partners. Donor Stewardship Help carry out our donor stewardship calendar and engagement strategy. Coordinate scheduled thank-you letters, newsletters, impact updates, mailings, and other donor communications. Track stewardship activities and follow-up. Support efforts to strengthen relationships with existing and lapsed donors. Who We're Looking For You don't need experience in every area above. We're looking for someone who brings a strong financial foundation and is interested in developing additional skills.
Our ideal candidate:
Has approximately 2+ years in bookkeeping, accounting, banking, lending, financial services, or a related field. Understands basic accounting and financial recordkeeping. Is comfortable with reconciliations, spreadsheets, financial records, and recurring deadlines. Has excellent attention to detail and notices when something doesn't look right. Is organized, dependable, and comfortable managing multiple files and follow-up responsibilities. Communicates well with coworkers, homeowners, applicants, donors, and community partners. Is comfortable learning new software, systems, and financial/program requirements. Demonstrates maturity, professionalism, discretion, and a collaborative approach to working as part of a small team. Communicates clearly and respectfully and is comfortable asking questions, sharing information, and working through challenges collaboratively. Understands the importance of maintaining confidentiality when working with personal and financial information. An associate or bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field is preferred but not required. Relevant experience and demonstrated skills matter to us. Experience with QuickBooks, nonprofit accounting, banking, mortgage servicing, loan processing, USDA Rural Development, or affordable housing programs is preferred but not required. We'll train the right person in the specialized areas of this position. Schedule & Work Location This is an in-person position based at our Spooner, Wisconsin office and is not a remote position. The position is anticipated at approximately 24-32 hours per week. While regular in-office presence is required, we offer flexibility in establishing a consistent daytime schedule that works for both the employee and organization. Regular evening and weekend work is not expected. Compensation $18-$20 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. We're interested in candidates with different combinations of bookkeeping, accounting, banking, lending, and financial experience.
