ASSOCIATE COMMERCIAL LINES UNDERWRITER
Description:
Allegany Co-op Insurance Company is an emblem of stability, security, and integrity and has been serving the Property & Casualty insurance needs of our policyholders since 1887. Allegany Insurance Group is rated "A-" by A.M. Best. The Associate Commercial Lines Underwriter is responsible for analyzing exposure-based risk for multiple classes of business submitted by independent agents. Must be able to negotiate pricing and coverage options with agents, on a timely basis, in order to determine acceptable risks at an adequate premium.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Under direction from the Commercial Lines Underwriting Manager and support from Underwriters and Senior Underwriters, learn and get accustomed to the Commercial Lines Manual, products, forms, rules and rates across Allegany Insurance Group. 1. Be technically competent to rate the following lines of business: Artisan Contractors (ACE) Businessowners Commercial Fire Special Multi-Peril Inland Marine 3. Develop a deep understanding of all policy management platforms 4. Within the scope of the authority statement, review and process all new business applications, renewals, endorsement requests, non-renewals, policy change notices and cancellations. Obtain all necessary information to ensure accurate data prior to issuance of policies, invoices and notices. 5. Review inspections and determine risk-improvement recommendations. Notify agents of recommendations resulting from inspections, follow up to ensure compliance and update the policy file accordingly. 6. Respond promptly to verbal or written requests or questions from agents and insureds. 7. Attend educational seminars/training to build technical knowledge base and promote continued knowledge of current insurance practices. 8. Maintain required policy forms (URB) necessary for processing policies. 9. Periodically test the rating system for accuracy. 10. Determine which policies are auditable and order, review, and process the appropriate audits. 11. Respond to coverage questions from the Claims Department. 12. Answer and route incoming calls. 13. Perform other duties as assigned or required.
Qualifications:
High school diploma required. Associate or Bachelor degree preferred. 0-3 years of Commercial Lines underwriting experience in the property/casualty insurance industry required. Good organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Familiarity with computer processing and data entry. Must possess high level mathematical and logical skills. Customer Service oriented.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
