An Insurance Underwriter evaluates and measures risk and advises businesses in insurance, banking and securities. Recommends customers to be approved for insurance coverage, and develops policies and premium levels. Reviews loan applications, evaluates credit-worthiness of loan applicants and analyzes the investment risk of a loan for the bank. Evaluates risk in different types of securities and advises clients on investments that will yield highest profits.

Job Description

Description Job Summary:
Reviews loan documents and appropriately decisions auto, personal, credit card and home equity lines of credit applications, by assessing financial risk, analyzing data, reviewing borrowers creditworthiness, and ensuring compliance with banking regulations, while making critical loan underwriting decisions.
Essential Job Duties:
Perform all duties of a level 1 & 2 Consumer Underwriter. Act as a subject matter experts for others in the department Assist in training new staff members on products and procedures Support and respond to questions from Consumer Underwriter 1 and 2. Serve as a member of the Credit Committee in decisioning loan applications that involve high complexity and loan amounts according to policy Escalate loan file with recommendation that exceed individual lending authority and/or of high complexity and associated risks to a Consumer Underwriter 4 or Supervisor. Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements Required Skills/Abilities:
Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Familiar and comfortable with information technology, particularly digital means of communication. Strong organizational skills in managing multiple initiatives. Strong analytical and decision-making skills
Knowledge:
Strong working knowledge of consumer credit and underwriting principles Strong working knowledge with federal and state regulations affecting consumer and mortgage loans Strong working-level knowledge of overall consumer and mortgage lending processes, including underwriting and loan processing. Strong working-level knowledge of valid documentation related to the processing of consumer and mortgage applications (tax returns, financial statements, verification of income, etc.) Strong knowledge with home equity line of credit
Education and Experience:
Minimum four years' experience in consumer and HELOC underwriting. Minimum high school diploma/GED or more than four year of related experience.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
