An Insurance Underwriter evaluates and measures risk and advises businesses in insurance, banking and securities. Recommends customers to be approved for insurance coverage, and develops policies and premium levels. Reviews loan applications, evaluates credit-worthiness of loan applicants and analyzes the investment risk of a loan for the bank. Evaluates risk in different types of securities and advises clients on investments that will yield highest profits.

Job Description
- Provide oversight of underwriting and rating activities for placement of eligible risks in various State Commercial Auto Plans.
- Offer technical support to staff performing complex underwriting duties in accordance with State Commercial Auto Plan procedures.
- Provide leadership and expertise to underwrite the largest and most complex policy applications, renewals, policy changes, and cancellations to determine risk acceptability and coverage.
- Perform customer service functions to include response to more complex telephone inquiries. Including inquiries and complaints from insured's producers, companies, and insurance departments.
- Determine and compile rating criteria (CASP Inspections, premium audits, MVR, questionnaire, and other information sources) to maximize premium.
- Review underwriting guidelines and procedures and provides final approval.
- Coordinate all underwriting related activity with other related departments.
- Perform underwriting quality control reviews, maintain quality performance reports.
- Interpret Plan rules to Producers, insureds, and companies where necessary.
- Coordinate and conduct training of staff and other personnel.
