A Medical Underwriter uses medical and health information to evaluate an application for medical malpractice insurance or for health insurance. Medical malpractice insurance is essentially medical professional liability insurance for medical professionals. For health insurance, the underwriter reviews insurance documents to determine whether an offer of health insurance should be made, identifies and excludes pre-existing medical conditions, determine insurance types and limits, and calculate premium costs.

Job Description

Description Summer Interns will support various departments and work on a variety of projects and day-to-day business responsibilities, gain soft skills in a professional business environment, conduct weekly presentations, participate in training sessions and other activities throughout the summer. Interns will be assigned to one of the following departments: Accounting Actuarial Business Development (Sales) Property and Casualty Medical Stop Loss Business Intelligence Captive Finance Claims Health Risk Management / Strategic Vendor Services Information Technology / Cybersecurity Marketing Program Management Property and Casualty Medical Stop Loss Risk Control Underwriting
ESSENTIAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Pursuing a bachelor's degree relative to a respective department and currently completing your junior year of college.
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES REQUIREMENTS
Strong team attitude Works well independently and in a team environment Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong skills in Microsoft Office, especially using Excel, Word, and PowerPoint Organization, planning and prioritization skills Commitment to company values
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
