This is a hands-on management and analytical position. The right candidate will be responsible not only for keeping equipment operational, but also for understanding what each asset costs the company, how effectively it is being utilized, when it should be repaired or replaced, and when additional equipment should be purchased. Key Responsibilities Manage the lifecycle of company vehicles and construction equipment from acquisition through disposal. Track and analyze equipment utilization, downtime, maintenance costs, repair costs, and overall cost of ownership . Prepare regular fleet reports and provide management with clear recommendations. Identify underutilized or high-cost equipment and recommend whether to keep, repair, replace, or sell the asset. Develop equipment replacement schedules and forecasts. Determine when additional vehicles or equipment are required based on operational demand and utilization. Support CAPEX planning and equipment acquisition decisions . Maintain accurate records for all fleet assets, including purchase price, maintenance history, mileage/hours, repairs, and disposal. Oversee the company's internal mechanic shop and repair operations . Monitor mechanic productivity, repair turnaround time, and equipment downtime. Decide when repairs should be completed internally versus outsourced to third-party vendors. Track and compare internal vs. third-party repair costs . Coordinate preventive maintenance programs and ensure services are completed on schedule. Work closely with Operations and Finance to forecast fleet and equipment needs. Develop and monitor fleet KPIs. Key Reports & KPIs The Fleet Asset & Maintenance Manager will be expected to maintain reporting around: Equipment utilization % Cost per mile / operating hour Repair and maintenance cost by asset Fleet downtime Preventive maintenance compliance Internal vs. third-party repair costs Equipment age and lifecycle Replacement recommendations Fleet acquisition needs Asset disposal recommendations Shop productivity and repair turnaround time Qualifications 3+ years of experience in fleet management, equipment management, fleet maintenance, or a similar role . Experience managing commercial trucks and/or construction equipment preferred. Strong understanding of vehicle and heavy-equipment maintenance. Strong analytical and reporting skills. Experience with fleet management software, Excel, or similar reporting systems. Ability to analyze operating costs and make data-driven equipment replacement and acquisition recommendations. Experience managing mechanics or an internal maintenance shop is strongly preferred. Strong organizational and communication skills. Experience in construction, telecommunications, utilities, transportation, or heavy equipment is a plus. What We're Looking For We are looking for someone who thinks of fleet management as asset management , not simply maintenance. The successful candidate should be able to answer questions such as: Are we using this equipment enough? How much is it costing us? Is it worth repairing? When should we replace it? Should we purchase another unit? Should this repair be done internally or by a third-party shop? This position will play a key role in helping the company reduce fleet costs, improve equipment availability, and make better equipment investment decisions.
