Position Summary The Mortgage Loan Originator Assistant serves as the strategic right hand to a high-producing Loan Originator, ensuring the seamless execution of the lending process from initial inquiry through closing. This role plays a critical part in maintaining pipeline momentum, protecting compliance integrity, and enhancing the client experience. The ideal candidate operates with urgency, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of Agency (Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac) guidelines to proactively identify documentation or eligibility concerns before underwriting submission. This is a production-support role directly tied to efficiency, quality, and volume growth. Key Responsibilities Pipeline & File Management Ensure loan files move efficiently from application to closing Monitor key milestones including lock expiration, contingency dates, and outstanding conditions Gather, review, and organize borrower documentation Review loan applications for completeness and alignment with Agency guidelines prior to submission Identify potential income, asset, or credit issues early and escalate appropriately Maintain detailed and accurate notes within the Loan Origination System (LOS) Coordinate with Processing and Operations to prevent delays Client & Partner Communication Serve as a primary point of contact for borrowers throughout the loan process Meet with applicants to collect required information and explain loan steps Schedule client appointments and follow up on outstanding documentation Provide proactive weekly status updates to borrowers Communicate professionally with Realtors, Title companies, and referral partners Production & Sales Support Support the MLO in maintaining and expanding referral relationships Assist with marketing initiatives including social media, database outreach, and open house support Help coordinate client events and brand-building activities Identify opportunities to enhance client retention and repeat business Quality & Compliance Support Review loan documentation to ensure alignment with: Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac guidelines AUS findings (DU/LP) Company overlays Assist in obtaining and reviewing credit reports Ensure files are submission-ready prior to underwriting Escalate potential compliance or eligibility concerns promptly Maintain professionalism and regulatory awareness throughout the loan cycle
Requirements:
Qualifications & Requirements Prior mortgage industry experience preferred (training available for candidates without industry experience) Working knowledge of Agency (Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac) guidelines preferred Familiarity with DU/LP findings and basic income documentation standards preferred Strong understanding of mortgage terminology and loan process preferred Exceptional customer service and communication skills required Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word) required Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment required Strong organizational and time management skills required High level of professionalism and attention to detail required Strong written communication and basic math skills required Self-motivated and able to work independently or within a team High School Diploma or equivalent required Core Competencies Agency Guideline Awareness Production Support Mindset Client Experience Excellence Organizational Discipline Compliance Awareness Time & Priority Management Problem Solving Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
