PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Loan Assistant performs a variety function supporting the Commercial Lender(s) in connection with Commercial, Real Estate, Agriculture and Consumer loans. Provides front-line contact with current and potential commercial loan customers. Assists with the gathering of information, completion of applications, and related documents necessary for the closing loans, processing draws, and clearing exceptions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assists Lender in gathering data from loan prospects, customers, internal and outside sources, contacts customers and prospects for additional information and clarification of data; data entry of customer and loan set-up in the Loan Operating System including uploading required documents.
  • Assists Lender in coordinating processing of approved loans and pending loans; ensures loans are processed according to agreement (such as covenant tracking), customer needs, and conform to Bank lending policies; obtains required information and/or documentation from customers.
  • Acts as direct contact with customers, Lender, and Loan Operations through loan process. Performs a variety of customer service activities including responding to requests, researching discrepancies, resolving issues, and clearing exceptions.
  • Communicates with attorney, if necessary, on document preparation and title work.
  • Orders loan documentation though Loan Services. Reviews the final documents noting proper rates, terms, and conditions of the loan, ensures appropriate approvals and actions are taken for a successful loan closing.
  • May assist the Lender with closings. Conducts a pre-closing and a post-closing file review and forwards the file to Loan Services for booking, scanning and filing.
  • Manages the loan documentation pipeline by updating officer and borrower on loan status, ensuring timely preparation of the loan process.
  • May be responsible for the servicing of loans, (e.g. payments, draws, insurance, etc).
  • Monitors loans, partners with Loan Officer to discuss past due ticklers and records documentation. Contacts clients to request financials on past due loans. Forwards financials to Analyst to spread.
  • Ensures compliance with banking policies, lending practices and regulatory process statutes, such as Patriot's Act.
  • Maintains knowledge of banking products and services, as well as knowledge of the industries or market areas served. Keeps informed of current developments and market trends, to further identify and service the customer's needs.
  • May represent the Bank in various community, civic, and community reinvestment functions to further enhance the Bank's image and develop additional business.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
EDUCATION
  • High School education or equivalent required.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Two plus (2+) years of banking or related experience required.
  • Commercial loan administration/documentation experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of commercial real estate loans, C&I, and consumer loan documentation; business entity types and required documentation; Title Policies and UCC filing requirements.
  • Abrigo Sageworks experience preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and customer service skills; ability to communicate effectively and professionally in writing, in person, and over the phone.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Proven ability to multitask and prioritize across numerous on-going transactions.
  • Must be dependable, professional, proactive, and courteous.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and use new software and programs.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
