What you will be doing The Functional Lead position is responsible for overseeing all functions related to the end-to-end payroll processing operation for their assigned Processing Teams. This includes managing day-to-day operations, workflow and workload distribution, payroll and payment transaction processing, special payroll transactions and runs, payroll deduction processing, payroll job execution, payroll-related banking functions, tax reporting, garnishment administration, compliance activities, and other payroll-related processes to ensure accurate and timely payroll delivery. The position will be based in Phoenix, AZ.
Main responsibilities:
Coordinates, prioritizes, and oversees the completion of all tasks, projects, and initiatives assigned within their area of responsibility. Provides workflow and workload direction to team members to maximize operational efficiency, service quality, and employee development. Monitors team capacity and productivity, proactively balancing workloads and resources to ensure timely and accurate processing. Monitors processing activities to ensure transaction and system issues are promptly identified, researched, resolved, and communicated; identifies opportunities to improve process efficiency, accuracy, and team proficiency. Oversee all day-to-day payroll processing operations for the assigned processing team, including daily, weekly, and periodic payroll transactions, payroll job execution, and specialized transaction processing related to all components of pay. Ensures adherence to departmental policies, standards, procedures, and service expectations while supporting standardization efforts and the implementation of best practices. Maintains compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company policies, procedures, controls, and processing deadlines. Oversees the periodic review, maintenance, and enhancement of departmental documentation, job aids, and process procedures to ensure accuracy and consistency. Partners with management on personnel-related activities, including employee development, performance management, training, coaching, employee engagement, and recognition initiatives. Analyzes operational data, case trends, and processing metrics to identify training needs, process improvement opportunities, operational efficiencies, and areas for enhanced business support. Serves as a subject matter expert for payroll operations, providing guidance, troubleshooting support, and issue resolution for complex payroll matters. We are looking for candidates who possess the following:
Education Level:
High School Diploma/GED required. A.A., B.A., or B.S. degree strongly desired. Certified Payroll Professional (CCP) desirable. PeopleSoft Absence Management experience desirable.
Skills and Experiences:
Three or more years of payroll experience in a highly automated payroll, Human Resources, or Accounting environment in a large organization. Supervision, Human Resource and Finance experience is a plus. Advanced knowledge of PeopleSoft HRMS application or similar software. Advanced knowledge of State and Federal laws, payroll, HR, garnishments, and contracts. Working knowledge of leave management systems.
