LHH is partnering with a growing and well-established construction company seeking a Payroll Manager to lead payroll operations across multiple entities. This is a highly visible leadership role responsible for managing a team of five payroll professionals, overseeing union and certified payroll processes, ensuring compliance, and partnering with leadership to support continued organizational growth. What You'll Do:

Manage end-to-end payroll operations for multiple legal entities and business units Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 5 payroll professionals, establishing priorities and ensuring accuracy Oversee weekly and bi-weekly payroll processing for union and non-union employees Ensure accurate processing of

  • certified payroll, prevailing wage, and union payroll requirements
  • Review payroll registers, reconciliations, tax filings, deductions, benefit withholdings, and labor allocations Maintain compliance with federal, state, local, and collective bargaining agreement requirements Partner with HR regarding new hires, terminations, compensation changes, and employee records Collaborate with Accounting on payroll journal entries, month-end close activities, accruals, and reconciliations Prepare payroll-related reports and labor cost analysis for leadership and project management teams Manage payroll audits, workers' compensation reporting, and year-end processes including W-2 preparation Identify and implement process improvements to strengthen controls, efficiency, and scalability Serve as the subject matter expert for payroll systems, policies, and compliance matters
What You Bring:

7+ years of payroll experience, including recent leadership or management experience Proven experience managing direct reports and building successful payroll teams Strong background in

  • construction industry payroll
  • is required Hands-on experience overseeing
  • union payroll and certified payroll processing
  • Experience managing
  • in-house payroll operations across multiple entities or companies
  • Deep knowledge of California payroll regulations, prevailing wage laws, and compliance requirements Strong understanding of payroll accounting, reconciliations, payroll taxes, and general ledger impacts Advanced Excel skills and experience generating payroll analytics and reporting Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and leadership skills Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment Nice to
Have:

CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) designation Experience with construction ERP and payroll systems such as Vista, Foundation, UKG, ADP, or similar platforms Multi-state payroll experience Experience supporting large field-based workforces across multiple job sites Exposure to labor costing, project accounting, and job cost allocation reporting Experience leading payroll process improvement or system implementation projects Employment type: Direct Hire If interested in this position apply today and send your resume to Regan.
