Summary/Objective The Payroll Team Lead is responsible for overseeing daily payroll operations while processing and supporting complex payroll activities, including multi-state and certified payrolls. This role serves as a subject-matter expert for payroll systems and processes, providing guidance to payroll team members and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations. The Payroll Team Lead also supports training and onboarding of new team members, manages specialized payroll processes and assists with process improvements to enhance payroll accuracy, efficiency, and service delivery. Key Responsibilities Support daily payroll operations, ensuring payrolls are processed accurately, timely, and in compliance with company policies and applicable laws. Process and review complex payrolls, including multi-state, certified, and import payrolls. Serve as a subject-matter expert for payroll systems and processes, troubleshooting complex payroll, timeclock, and wage-related issues. Unlock payrolls as needed to facilitate corrections, adjustments, and reprocessing. Manage the setup and maintenance of pay codes and deduction codes. Ensure payroll activities comply with federal, state, and local tax laws, as well as internal payroll policies and procedures. Serve as a point of contact for internal payroll-related questions, collaborating with the Payroll Supervisors and Manager on complex or sensitive matters. Lead, mentor, and support payroll team members, providing guidance on payroll processes, system functionality, and compliance requirements. Train and onboard new hires on payroll systems, workflows, and best practices. Provide interdepartmental training and support related to payroll processes, procedures, and timelines. Oversee and manage special projects. Identify and support process improvements, assisting with the development and documentation of payroll procedures and best practices.Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment, using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.Physical Demands:
Must be able to remain stationary for long periods. Frequently required to use hands to operate office equipment. Occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds.Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time, hybrid position, working 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM. Generally, Tuesday-Thursday is required in the office days, but on occasion all 5 days may be required to facilitate training.Required Education and Experience:
6+ years of payroll experience, with a focus on multi-state and certified payrolls. Proven ability to lead a team and improve processes.Preferred Education and Experience:
Experience with payroll software systems. Associate's degree in accounting or a related field is preferred. Working knowledge of project management principles and best practices. Work Authorization/Security Clearance Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and to establish a good, cooperative relationship with clients.Similar remote jobs
