The Payroll Manager is responsible for leading accurate, timely, and compliant payroll operations for a construction workforce, including hourly craft employees, and salaried staff. This role oversees full-cycle payroll processing, certified payroll reporting, payroll compliance, job cost labor allocation, payroll reconciliations, and collaboration with accounting, HR, and project operations teams.
Roles & Responsibilities
Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential.
Detailed manager of the end-to-end payroll process including collecting, processing and inputting weekly payroll data for all employees.
Maintains accurate employee records, including attendance, leaves and personal information.
Collaborates with the human resources and the accounting departments to seamlessly integrate payroll and employee data, specifically updates for new hires, benefits, terminations, changes to pay rates, etc.
Determines payroll liabilities by approving the calculation of employee federal and state income and social security taxes, and employer's social security, unemployment, etc.
Files monthly, quarterly and annual payroll tax reports with Federal and State entities as required.
Ensures accurate and timely payment of all employees via checks or direct deposit.
As necessary, prepares reports for management by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and/or nontaxable wages.
Balances the payroll accounts by resolving payroll discrepancies.
Maintains payroll guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures.
Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
Position Requirements
Required skills and qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, human resources or a related field.
3-5+ years of experience in payroll management or a similar accounting role.
In-depth knowledge of payroll processes, labor laws, taxation and statutory compliance.
Experience in handling payroll audits, inspections and compliance assessments.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in managing complex payroll calculation data.
Knowledge of multi-state payroll processing and Indian tax regulations, including TDS, GST and income tax provisions.
Advance Excel experience
Experience with Vista by Viewpoint a plus.
