Part-Time Payroll & Bookkeeping Specialist Vulcan Tax & Accounting LLC Homewood, AL Job Details Part-time | Full-time $18 - $25 an hour 4 hours ago Benefits Flexible schedule Qualifications Master's degree in business administration Sales tax return preparation Payroll tax processing Bachelor's degree in finance Financial record maintenance QuickBooks Bookkeeping Bank reconciliation Payroll processing Payroll record maintenance Full Job Description Vulcan Tax & Accounting LLC is a Homewood tax and accounting firm serving small, locally owned Alabama businesses. We are onboarding a large group of new clients and need an experienced team member to run payroll and keep client books accurate and current. You will start in early December, which gives you time to onboard clients and set up systems before our busy season begins in January.
Schedule:
May to
December:
Monday to Thursday, 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Fridays off January to April (tax season): Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM One-hour paid lunch On-site in Homewood, AL.
Start date:
early December 2026
Compensation:
$18 to $25 per hour, depending on experience and skills. Tax season bonus paid at the end of April, based on the firm meeting its revenue goal.
Responsibilities:
Run payroll in QuickBooks Desktop for small Alabama businesses Prepare and file payroll tax deposits and returns: 941, 940, Alabama withholding and unemployment, W-2/W-3, and 1099/1096 Perform monthly bank reconciliations in QuickBooks Desktop File Alabama sales tax returns through My Alabama Taxes Create and renew business licenses across Alabama Track deadlines and keep client filings current Onboard new clients: set up payroll, state tax accounts, and license records Provide administrative support during tax season (scanning, organizing documents, data entry, scheduling, client follow-up)
Requirements:
2+ years of hands-on payroll experience in QuickBooks Desktop, including payroll tax filings Experience with bank reconciliations in QuickBooks Desktop Experience with year-end W-2/W-3 and 1099/1096 processing Strong organization and attention to deadlines Clear, professional communication with clients Dependable, detail oriented, and comfortable working on-site Nice to have: Experience at an accounting or tax firm Familiarity with tax documents and return preparation This position has room to grow, with more hours available as the firm grows.
Pay:
$18.00 - $25.00 per hour Expected hours: 30.0 - 40.0 per week
