Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking an organized and detail-oriented Payroll Clerk to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the processing of employee timecards, calculating pay, issuing paychecks, and maintaining accurate payroll records. You will serve as the primary point of contact for employee payroll inquiries while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local labor and tax regulations.
Key Responsibilities Payroll Processing:
Collect, verify, and process weekly timecards, wage computations, overtime, bonuses, and commission payments.
Employee Record Management:
Enter and update employee payroll data, including tax withholdings, direct deposit details, salary changes, and benefits deductions.
Compliance & Tax Withholding:
Calculate and ensure accurate deduction of taxes, retirement contributions, wage garnishments, and insurance premiums in compliance with regulations.
Discrepancy Resolution:
Investigate and resolve payroll errors, missing time entries, and employee questions regarding pay stubs and leave balances.
Reporting:
Prepare weekly, monthly, and annual payroll summaries, tax reports, and audit logs for accounting management.
Payment Distribution:
Issue physical paychecks or execute direct deposit transfers, ensuring all staff are paid accurately and on schedule. $16.00 per hour is the starting wage for an entry level candidate. The actual starting wage will be based upon the years of experience and the skills and knowledge of the position.
Qualifications & Requirements Education:
High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance preferred.
Experience:
3-5 years of experience in payroll processing, accounting assistance, or bookkeeping.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in payroll software (e.g., ADP, Paychex, Workday, or Gusto), timekeeping software (Kronos), and Microsoft Excel (data entry, basic functions, formulas).
Labor Law Knowledge:
Basic understanding of Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), wage and hour laws, and payroll tax regulations.
Data Accuracy:
Exceptional attention to detail and high degree of accuracy in mathematical calculations and data entry.
Communication:
Strong interpersonal and written communication skills to communicate effectively with employees across departments. From $16.00 per hour
