$26.44 - $33.65 per hour, DOE ($55,000 - $70,000 annualized)

Established in 1913, Electric Motor Shop is a premier electrical contractor, motor repair shop and electrical supply wholesale distributor. The Electric Motor Shop's state of the art repair facility offers all levels of motor and pump repair, service and rewinding, with 24-hour service availability. Our supply division has one of the largest stocking warehouses in Central California. We also have a fully licensed professional contracting division capable of providing service for small to large industrial projects, including custom panel design and installation, PLC programming, AC drives, and transformer installations.
JOB SUMMARY
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for administering weekly payroll, maintaining accurate payroll records, supporting benefits programs, and helping ensure payroll practices comply with applicable federal and California wage-and-hour requirements and Company policies. This role works closely with employees, supervisors, management, Human Resources, and Accounting to deliver accurate payroll services, resolve payroll-related issues, reconcile payroll activity, and support overall HR operations.
PRINCIPAL DUTIESRESPONSIBILITIES
Administer weekly payroll, ensuring accurate and timely processing of all payroll transactions, including regular wages, overtime, bonuses, commissions, retroactive pay, vacation, sick leave, holiday pay, and other applicable earnings. Review, audit, and validate employee timecards for payroll accuracy, including missed punches, overtime, meal-period premiums, paid sick leave, and other payroll exceptions. Communicate with supervisors and managers to correct and resolve timecard issues and obtain appropriate documentation or approvals. Manage garnishment orders, including setup, processing, maintenance, and required documentation. Respond to employee payroll inquiries and resolve issues promptly. Maintain accurate employee payroll records and employee data within the HRIS, including approved compensation, department, deduction, tax, and other payroll-related changes. Process off-cycle payments, including final pay, advances, corrections, and special payroll run, and support timely final wage payments in accordance with applicable requirements. Prepare accurate and timely month-end payroll reporting and reconcile payroll activity, deductions, benefit contributions, retirement contributions, and other payroll-related balances. Distribute weekly payroll checks to department managers. Support benefits administration and annual open enrollment activities. Prepare, reconcile, and submit weekly 401(k) contributions. Maintain organized HR and payroll documentation in compliance with applicable recordkeeping requirements and Company retention practices. Maintain and update the EMS attendance calendar daily. Support payroll-related audits, including retirement plan, workers' compensation, and otherpayroll or benefit audits, by preparing requested reports and documentation. Assist with year-end payroll activities, including W-2 review and reconciliation, as assigned. Research payroll discrepancies and coordinate corrections with Human Resources, accounting, supervisors, employees, and payroll or benefit vendors as appropriate. Support payroll compliance reviews involving overtime, meal-period premiums, minimum wage, paid sick leave, final pay, and other applicable California payroll requirements. Maintain high level of confidentiality when handling sensitive information. Perform other duties as assigned or required. Qualifications (Skills, Education and Experience): The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job. Education, experience, and skills: Required High school diploma or GED. Minimum of 2 years of payroll, human resources, or related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of payroll processes, HR practices, basic accounting principles, and applicable California wage-and-hour/payroll requirements. Excellent organizational, time management, analytical, and attention-to-detail skills with the ability to meet recurring payroll deadlines. Preferred Bachelor's degree in human resources or a related field. Experience processing payroll for hourly and non-exempt employees. Experience with iSolved or a comparable HRIS/payroll system and proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
