Senior Payroll Specialist Confidential Los Angeles, CA Job Details Full-time $30 - $35 an hour Benefits Health insurance Dental insurance 401(k) Paid time off Vision insurance 401(k) matching Life insurance Qualifications Teamwork Employment & labor law Policy & process development Team management Attention to detail Time & attendance systems Full Job Description Senior Payroll Specialist Role Overview We are looking to add a new member to our payroll team who will be performing various duties including but not limited to, the accurate calculation of wages, maintenance of records, and distribution of payroll reports. This person will act as a resource to our facilities and provide leadership to the rest of our payroll team members. Due to our volume and nature of the industry, they must be comfortable operating in a fast-paced and high-volume environment.
Duties:
- Facilitate communication and collaboration with assigned clients to deliver training on payroll processes and ensure sustained compliance. This includes ensuring that clients have a clear understanding of internal controls over initiation, authorization, processing, recording and reporting of payroll transactions.
- Assist Payroll Assistants with new hires, promotions, terminations, garnishments, wage assignments, as well as any other employment and payroll processes that may arise.
- Assist with timesheet reviews and ensure submissions are made in a timely manner. Maintain late timesheet submission/errors and work with applicable departments to address issues.
- Maintain payroll operations by exporting and importing payroll data followed by reviewing and ensuring accuracy prior to submission.
- Reconcile payroll transmissions and validate confirmed reports.
- Prepare periodical payroll-related analysis, summarize outcomes, make and help implement any potential recommendations.
- Create custom reports upon management requests.
- Regularly run Employee Roster reports upon assigned clients' request as well as be able to analyze and restructure the data in Excel to accommodate any requests.
- Assist in troubleshooting system-related issues and determine appropriate, corrective action.
- Respond to client inquiries, complaints, or problems using internal ticketing system.
- Participate in the development of new procedures and policies related to payroll operations.
- Assist to coordinate approved changes within payroll processing system; update affected policy/procedure manuals.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Five years of payroll processing experience OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.
- Prior supervisor experience preferred.
- Experience in high volume payroll processing (3,000+employees) required.
- Prior experience with HR/Payroll ERP, time-tracking systems required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites.
- Advanced knowledge of Excel including
VLOOK, PIVOT TABLES, SUMIF
functions.- Knowledge of applicable Federal and State HR/Payroll Laws (FMLA, FLSA, e.g.) and IRS regulations that impact payroll.
- Excellent processing skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to consistently meet deadlines.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Must be detail-oriented and comfortable working in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.
- Excellent people skills and must be able to provide guidance and leadership to other payroll staff on a regular basis.
- Pay range is $30-$35 hourly, dependent on experience.
