We are looking for a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to join our team in California. This contract opportunity with permanent potential is ideal for someone who takes pride in delivering accurate, timely payroll support while maintaining a high level of confidentiality. The role will partner closely with HR and internal stakeholders to help ensure payroll operations run smoothly and employee questions are addressed effectively.

Responsibilities:

Administer recurring payroll cycles with a strong focus on precision, timeliness, and compliance with established payroll practices. Prepare off-cycle payments, including final wages and other special check requests, while ensuring proper documentation and processing. Calculate and issue variable compensation such as stipends and bonus payments according to defined schedules and approved guidelines. Track and update employee leave balances, including sick time, vacation, and other paid time off, to maintain accurate records. Audit payroll entries and supporting data to identify inconsistencies, investigate issues, and correct discrepancies before completion of payroll. Generate and analyze payroll system reports, including information tied to employee pay and benefit-related deductions. Compile payroll reporting for retirement contributions and applicable withholding activity, ensuring figures are complete and accurate. Maintain organized payroll files and safeguard sensitive employee information in accordance with confidentiality expectations. Collaborate with HR and leadership to respond to payroll-related inquiries and provide support on routine administrative needs. Previous payroll experience supporting a workforce of 100 or more employees. Hands-on experience managing full-cycle payroll, including non-standard payments such as final checks, manual checks, bonuses, or stipends. Working knowledge of leave balance administration, including sick leave and vacation tracking. Familiarity with Paycom is preferred; experience with other payroll platforms will also be considered. Strong attention to detail with the ability to review and validate payroll data accurately. Ability to handle confidential payroll and employee information with professionalism and discretion. Effective organizational and communication skills in a collaborative, on-site work environment.
