About the Opportunity Brookside CXO is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Part-Time Contract Bookkeeper to support the accounting and financial operations of our clients. This is a hands-on position for someone who is comfortable managing day-to-day accounting activities while also ensuring that financial records are accurate, reconciled, and kept current. The position will begin at approximately 10-15 hours per week , with the potential for additional hours and responsibilities as our client base continues to grow. The ideal candidate is highly organized, dependable, comfortable working independently, and experienced working with multiple companies or clients simultaneously. Key Responsibilities Responsibilities may vary by client and will include: Maintain accurate and current accounting records in QuickBooks Online Record and properly classify financial transactions Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations Prepare and post monthly and recurring journal entries Manage and maintain the general ledger Assist with month-end closing procedures Review balance sheet accounts and investigate discrepancies Utilize Bill.com for accounts payable and payment processing Process and/or review payroll using ADP Reconcile payroll reports and payroll-related general ledger accounts Maintain supporting documentation and organized electronic accounting records Prepare routine financial reports, including Profit & Loss Statements, Balance Sheets, and other management reports Identify unusual transactions, discrepancies, or accounting issues and communicate them promptly Follow established accounting procedures and internal controls Assist with improving bookkeeping processes and procedures where appropriate Required Qualifications Demonstrated professional bookkeeping or accounting experience Strong proficiency in QuickBooks Online is required Experience with ADP payroll is required Experience with Bill.com is required Strong understanding of general accounting principles, including: General ledger accounting Journal entries Bank and credit card reconciliations Accounts payable and accounts receivable Accruals and prepaid expenses Payroll accounting Month-end closing procedures Ability to read and understand basic financial statements Strong Microsoft Excel skills Excellent attention to detail and accuracy Strong organizational and time-management skills Ability to manage multiple companies, clients, priorities, and deadlines Ability to work independently while communicating effectively with management and clients Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to handle confidential financial and employee information with discretion Preferred Qualifications Associate's or bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field Previous experience working for a bookkeeping, accounting, fractional CFO, or professional services firm Experience managing books for multiple companies simultaneously Experience working with small and mid-sized businesses Experience assisting with month-end and year-end close Experience working directly with business owners, controllers, CFOs, and CPAs QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor certification is a plus Schedule & Engagement Independent contractor position Approximately 10-15 hours per week initially (On-Site, Stockton CA) Potential for hours and responsibilities to increase as the position and our client base grow Schedule offers some flexibility but requires consistent availability and timely completion of client deadlines What We're Looking For We are looking for more than someone who simply enters transactions. The right person will take ownership of the books , recognize when something does not look right, investigate discrepancies, and help ensure that our clients' financial information is complete, accurate, and useful. You should be comfortable working independently, asking questions when necessary, and managing recurring responsibilities without requiring constant oversight. Accuracy, responsiveness, professionalism, and follow-through are extremely important in this role. Pay:
