Description Payroll Specialist Contract-to-Hire Opportunity About the Role Robert Half is partnering with a well-established construction company seeking a Payroll Specialist to join their team. This role will be responsible for processing payroll for field and office employees while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely payment. The ideal candidate will have experience handling high-volume payroll in a construction or project-based environment and be comfortable working with multiple pay rates, certified payroll, prevailing wage requirements, and union payroll where applicable. Key Responsibilities

+ Process weekly and biweekly payroll for field and office employees accurately and on time.

+ Maintain payroll records, including new hires, terminations, wage changes, deductions, garnishments, and benefit elections.

+ Review and reconcile payroll registers, labor reports, and payroll-related general ledger accounts.

+ Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations, including prevailing wage and certified payroll requirements when applicable.

+ Process and audit employee timecards and labor allocations for job costing purposes.

+ Prepare certified payroll reports and supporting documentation for public works projects.

+ Coordinate with HR and project teams to ensure accurate employee and project information is reflected in payroll.

+ Assist with payroll tax reporting, year-end processing, W-2s, and other payroll-related filings.

+ Respond to employee questions regarding pay, deductions, benefits, and payroll discrepancies.

+ Support payroll audits and maintain accurate payroll documentation. Requirements Qualifications + 2+ years of payroll experience, preferably within construction, engineering, contracting, or a related industry.

+ Experience processing full-cycle payroll for hourly and salaried employees.

+ Working knowledge of certified payroll, prevailing wage, union payroll, or project-based payroll is highly preferred.

+ Familiarity with payroll systems such as ADP, UKG, Paychex, Viewpoint, Foundation, Spectrum, or similar platforms.

+ Strong Excel skills, including reconciliations, reporting, and data analysis.

+ Understanding of payroll tax regulations, garnishments, and compliance requirements.

+ Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

+ Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with accounting, HR, and operations teams.
