$28-$32/hr About the Role As a Payroll and Tax Specialist, you will play a critical role in supporting our clients across the United States. In this position, you will work closely with our payroll processing team to reconcile state and federal tax filings, resolve tax notices, and fix data discrepancies. You will also manage accurate data entry in our proprietary payroll system, interface directly with government agencies, assist with new client onboarding, and handle key operational tasks. High attention to detail and strong analytical skills are essential. Core Responsibilities- Maintain accurate client and employee records within our proprietary payroll system.
- Reconcile and file Form 940, Form 941, state withholding, state unemployment (SUI), and other multi-state payroll tax returns.
- Research, manage, and resolve federal, state, and local payroll tax notices and agency inquiries.
- Stay current on changing federal, state, and local payroll tax, reporting, and filing requirements.
- Assist with new client onboarding and setup.
- Provide professional customer support and agency liaison services for tax resolution.
- Assist with general administrative and office duties as needed. Required Skills & Qualifications
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (data manipulation, formulas, reconciliation).
- Familiarity or working proficiency with XML data formatting and e-filing file structures.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to "drill down" into complex numbers to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve payroll tax discrepancies.
- High level of organization, with the ability to prioritize and execute multiple concurrent tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong team player with the self-motivation to work independently.
- High integrity and discretion when handling confidential client and employee data (must pass a background check). Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in multi-state payroll tax filing and notice resolution.
- Experience in client-facing role with a focus on issue resolution.
