at Robert Half in Northbrook, Illinois, United States Job Description Description We are looking for a highly organized and detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to join our team in Northbrook, Illinois. In this role, you will oversee payroll processing to ensure accuracy, compliance, and confidentiality while supporting employee inquiries related to compensation. This is a long-term contract position that offers an opportunity to contribute to smooth payroll operations and compliance with all relevant regulations.
Responsibilities:
  • Verify employee timesheets to ensure accurate documentation of hours worked.
  • Enter payroll data into spreadsheets and databases with precision and attention to detail.
  • Manage direct deposit requests, update banking information, and ensure timely payment processing.
  • Process paper checks and ensure proper documentation and signatures are completed before distribution.
  • Adjust payroll for bonuses, raises, commissions, and other compensation changes with accurate calculations.
  • Handle wage garnishments, ensuring deductions comply with legal requirements.
  • Maintain payroll records, including tax withholdings, employee benefits, and garnishments, ensuring compliance.
  • Generate and deliver payroll reports for management and internal departments, supporting audits and accounting functions.
  • Address employee inquiries regarding payroll discrepancies, deductions, and related matters with professionalism.
  • Uphold confidentiality and compliance standards when managing sensitive payroll information. Requirements
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Proven experience in payroll processing and familiarity with payroll systems and software.
  • Knowledge of wage garnishments, tax deductions, and payroll-related regulations.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple payroll tasks effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and experience with payroll software.
  • Strong communication skills for clear and effective interaction with employees and management.
  • Understanding of federal, state, and local payroll tax laws and compliance requirements.
The salary range for this position is $23.00 to $26.00. Benefits available to contract/temporary professionals, include medical, vision, dental, and life and disability insurance.
