$65,000 - $80,000 per year About the Opportunity Our client is a well-established, nationally recognized provider of transportation, logistics, distribution, and warehousing services with a history spanning more than a century. With operations across multiple locations throughout the United States, the organization has built a reputation for service excellence, operational quality, and a people-first culture. They are seeking a Payroll Specialist to join their corporate team in Roseville, MN. This is a highly visible, on-site role responsible for the full payroll lifecycle, payroll tax compliance, payroll accounting, reconciliations, and reporting for approximately 300+ employees located across multiple states. Position Summary The Payroll Specialist will serve as the sole payroll professional for the organization, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This individual will partner closely with Human Resources, Benefits, and Accounting while acting as the primary resource for payroll-related questions and issues. Key Responsibilities Payroll Processing & Administration Process weekly payroll for a multi-state workforce, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance. Perform payroll audits and reviews before and after payroll processing to identify and resolve discrepancies. Maintain employee payroll records, deductions, garnishments, benefit contributions, and related data. Coordinate closely with Human Resources and Benefits to ensure employee changes are accurately reflected in payroll. Serve as the primary point of contact for employee and manager payroll inquiries. Payroll Tax & Compliance Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations across multiple jurisdictions. Research and resolve payroll tax notices and compliance issues. Review quarterly and annual payroll tax filings for accuracy. Coordinate year-end payroll activities, including W-2 review and reconciliation. Stay informed of changing payroll tax laws and regulations. Payroll Accounting & Reconciliations Prepare and record payroll-related journal entries. Reconcile payroll bank accounts and payroll-related general ledger accounts. Research and resolve account variances and outstanding items. Ensure payroll liabilities and deductions are accurately recorded and reconciled. Reporting & Audit Support Prepare recurring and ad hoc payroll reports for management. Provide payroll data and supporting documentation for financial reporting and audits. Assist with annual workers' compensation and 401(k) audits. Participate in payroll-related projects and process improvement initiatives. Additional Responsibilities Maintain strict confidentiality of employee compensation and payroll information. Support other payroll, accounting, and reporting functions as needed. Qualifications Required 3+ years of payroll experience, preferably in a multi-state environment. Experience utilizing a modern payroll processing system. Working knowledge of payroll accounting, reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger activity. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including lookups and formulas. Preferred Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field. Experience with Paylocity or similar payroll platforms.
