Job Description
Description We are looking for a dependable Payroll Clerk to support a busy construction organization in Durham, North Carolina. This Contract to hire position and is ideal for someone who is comfortable working on site, managing high-volume payroll activity, and handling detailed administrative tasks with accuracy. The person in this role will help maintain payroll operations across multiple entities, contribute to timely employee payments, and provide reliable day-to-day support in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Process payroll for a large volume of employees and multiple company entities while maintaining accuracy and timeliness.
- Enter, review, and update payroll data in Sage 100 and related records with strong attention to detail.
- Assist with full-cycle payroll activities, including earnings, deductions, garnishments, and routine adjustments.
- Verify timekeeping and payroll information before submission to help ensure compliant and error-free payroll processing.
- Support payroll coverage for the department by managing essential tasks independently when needed.
- Maintain organized payroll documentation in an environment that includes significant manual and paper-based processes.
- Work closely with internal team members to resolve payroll discrepancies and respond to routine payroll questions.
- Contribute to consistent payroll operations within a construction-focused business that manages high transaction volume Requirements
- At least 3 years of payroll experience, including hands-on exposure to full-cycle payroll processing.
- Prior experience handling payroll in a high-volume environment with extensive data entry responsibilities.
- Working knowledge of Sage 100, ideally within a payroll or accounting setting.
- Experience administering payroll deductions, garnishments, and related updates.
- Background in construction, contractor, warehouse, or similarly operations-driven industries.
- Ability to work on site in Durham, North Carolina and quickly adapt to established workflows.
- Strong accuracy, organization, and dependability, with a coachable approach to learning team processes.
