Job Description
Description We are looking for a Payroll Specialist to support payroll operations for a university environment in Dayton, Ohio. This contract position has the potential to become permanent and is ideal for someone who can manage payroll accurately across multiple pay cycles and jurisdictions while maintaining a high level of compliance and attention to detail. The person in this role will handle end-to-end payroll processing, help resolve payroll issues, and contribute to reliable payroll administration for a large employee population. Responsibilities:
- Administer complete payroll processing from initial data review through final validation for weekly and bi-weekly pay cycles.
- Manage payroll activities for employees working in multiple states, ensuring accurate withholding and adherence to applicable regulations.
- Review earnings, deductions, taxes, and adjustments to confirm payroll results are complete, timely, and correct.
- Support payroll processing for an employee base exceeding 500 individuals while maintaining confidentiality and data integrity.
- Use Banner and related payroll systems to enter, update, audit, and reconcile payroll information.
- Investigate payroll discrepancies, respond to employee questions, and resolve issues related to pay, taxes, and deductions.
- Maintain payroll records and documentation in accordance with organizational standards and compliance requirements.
- Assist with payroll-related process updates, including system or workflow changes, as needed within the department. Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience in payroll administration, including end-to-end payroll processing.
- Hands-on experience managing multi-state payroll with strong understanding of payroll tax and compliance considerations.
- Proven ability to process payroll for a workforce of more than 500 employees.
- Experience running both weekly and bi-weekly payroll cycles accurately and on schedule.
- Working knowledge of Banner payroll software is a plus but not required
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to handle sensitive information discreetly and accurately.
- Solid problem-solving and reconciliation skills to identify and correct payroll discrepancies efficiently.
