It requires accuracy, follow-through, sound judgment, strong payroll knowledge, and the ability to meet deadlines every time. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced payroll professional who enjoys working independently, supporting multiple clients, learning different systems, and being part of a growing HR consulting organization. This position is primarily focused on payroll administration , with the remaining responsibilities supporting client onboarding. HR administration, and operational support. What You'll Do Payroll Administration — Primary Focus Process accurate and timely payroll for multiple Michigan HR Group clients using a variety of payroll and HRIS platforms. Review employee changes, time records, deductions, garnishments , bonuses, commissions, and other payroll transactions for completeness and accuracy. Process regular and off-cycle payrolls and maintain required payroll records and documentation. Assist with payroll reporting, reconciliations, quarter-end and year-end activities , and payroll-related projects. Research and resolve payroll discrepancies, employee payroll questions, and routine payroll system issues. Coordinate with clients, Michigan HR Group consultants, and outside providers to ensure payroll deadlines and required changes are handled promptly and accurately . Client HR Administrative Support Support employee onboarding, including new-hire documentation, background checks, screening requirements, and related employment processes. Enter and maintain accurate employee information in client HRIS and payroll systems. Assist with employee documentation, recordkeeping, reporting, and recurring HR administrative processes. Michigan HR Group Administrative Support Provide administrative and operational support to Michigan HR Group leadership and consultants. Prepare and maintain client records, reports, correspondence, meeting materials, and internal tracking tools. Assist with document organization, recordkeeping, and routine administrative activities. What We're Looking For Above all, we are looking for someone who is reliable, organized, detail-oriented, responsive, and knowledgeable about payroll . Our clients depend on us to meet critical deadlines, protect confidential information, and provide accurate work. Qualifications Significant hands-on payroll processing experience required; experience supporting multiple employers, clients, business units, or locations strongly preferred. Experience working with multiple payroll and HRIS platforms strongly preferred, with the ability to quickly learn new systems and processes. Strong working knowledge of payroll practices, payroll taxes, deductions, garnishments, wage and hour requirements, and payroll recordkeeping. Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, particularly Excel, Outlook, Word, and Teams. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple clients, priorities, and payroll deadlines accurately and efficiently. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work independently while remaining responsive to clients, consultants, and other service providers. Demonstrated discretion and sound judgment when handling confidential employee, payroll, financial, and client information. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification preferred. Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, human resources, finance, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience will be considered. Work Schedule & Environment Part-time — approximately 20 hours per week to start , with potential for additional hours as business and client needs grow. Primarily remote, with a company laptop provided . Must maintain sufficient flexibility and availability to meet established client payroll schedules, processing deadlines, and other time-sensitive responsibilities. Occasional travel to client locations and attendance at in-person meetings at Michigan HR Group offices may be required based on business and client needs.
