Job Description

Overview Sequoias Tree Expert is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Payroll Generalist to manage the accurate and timely processing of weekly payroll while ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. This position plays a vital role in supporting payroll operations, maintaining employee payroll records, and serving as a resource for employees and management regarding payroll-related matters. The ideal candidate is organized, analytical, maintains strict confidentiality, and thrives in a fast-paced environment. Duties Process accurate and timely weekly payroll using Paycom. Audit employee timecards for accuracy, overtime, missed punches, and pay discrepancies. Review and process payroll-related Personnel Action Forms (PAFs), including new hires, terminations, wage changes, promotions, transfers, and employee status changes. Maintain employee payroll records and ensure all payroll documentation is complete and accurate. Process employee deductions, garnishments, child support orders, direct deposits, and tax withholdings. Reconcile payroll data and resolve payroll discrepancies promptly. Generate payroll reports for management and accounting as requested. Ensure payroll is processed in compliance with company policies and all applicable wage and hour laws. Maintain confidentiality of payroll and employee information. Respond to employee payroll inquiries in a professional and timely manner. Assist with year-end payroll activities, including W-2 preparation and payroll audits. Coordinate with Human Resources regarding employee onboarding, offboarding, and payroll-related changes. Assist with payroll record retention and compliance audits. Support continuous improvement of payroll processes and internal controls. Perform other payroll-related duties as assigned. Qualifications Proven experience with payroll management systems such as Workday, ADP, Paychex, or UltiPro is essential Strong knowledge of accounting principles including double entry bookkeeping, debits & credits, journal entries, and general ledger accounting Familiarity with financial concepts related to corporate accounting, governmental accounting, and non-profit accounting Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks or PeopleSoft; experience with HRIS systems is a plus Excellent data entry skills with high accuracy (10 key typing) and attention to detail Ability to analyze financial data effectively and perform account reconciliation tasks confidently Knowledge of tax regulations related to payroll processing and benefits administration Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment Effective communication skills to collaborate with human resources, finance teams, and external vendors Education High school diploma or GED required. Associate's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field preferred. Experience Minimum of two (2) years of payroll processing experience. Experience processing high-volume, weekly payroll preferred. Experience with Paycom or a comparable HRIS/payroll system preferred. Knowledge of payroll tax regulations and wage and hour compliance. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel. Ability to work independently while meeting strict payroll deadlines. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Pay:
$25.00 - $28.00 per hour
