Job Description

Our local client is seeking a dedicated Payroll Specialist with a strong background in government payroll processes and HR benefits management. The ideal candidate will have experience with the Virginia Retirement System (VRS) and will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, compliance with regulations, and effective management of employee benefits.
Key Responsibilities:
Payroll processing: Manage end-to-end payroll functions, including data entry, payroll calculations, and disbursement. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
HR Benefits Management:
Administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirements plans, and other benefits. Provide guidance on VRS policies and procedures, assisting employees with enrollment and inquiries.
Reporting:
Prepare and maintain payroll reports, summaries, and other necessary documentation. Assist in the preparation of audits related to payroll and benefits.
Compliance and Regulations:
Stay updated on changes in payroll legislation and HR regulations affecting government employees. Ensure compliance with applicable laws and policies related to employee benefits and payroll.
Employee Relations:
Serve as a point of contact for payroll and benefits inquiries, resolving issues and providing support to employees. Conduct training sessions for staff on payroll and benefits-related topics.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. Payroll experience in a government setting. Strong knowledge of HR benefits management, specifically with VRS. Proficiency in payroll software and HRIS systems. Familiarity with government regulations regarding payroll and employee benefits. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. This a long term temporary assignment paying $30-40/hour.
