Job Description

Overview We are seeking a detail orientated and client focused Payroll clerk to join or public accounting firm. You will be responsible for processing payroll accurately and efficiently for a diverse portfolio of business clients. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, possesses strong numeric skills, and excels at delivering excellent customer service to client employers and the staff.
Responsibilities Multi-client Processing :
Execute end-to -end payroll processing for multiple clients on weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly schedules.
Data Management :
Collect, verify, and reconcile timecards, attendance records, and commission/bonus data submitted by clients.
Payroll Calculations :
Calculate gross and net wages, standard deductions, overtime, retroactive pay, and tax withholdings with 100% accuracy.
Client Onboarding & Updates :
Maintain up-to-date employee profiles (new hires, terminations, salary changes, tax exemptions) in the payroll software.
Tax & Compliance :
Process tax payments and prepare necessary payroll reports. Assist clients with staying compliant with federal, state, and local tax regulations. Client communication : Serve as the primary point of contact for clients to answer payroll related questions, resolve discrepancies, and request missing information.
Reporting :
Generate and distribute payroll journals, earning summaries, and tax reports (including W-2's and 1099s) at year end.
Qualifications Experience:
1-3 years proven experience in payroll processing, preferably within a multi-client or public accounting environment.
Software Proficiency:
Excel, accounting software (QuickBooks or similar), and data entry accuracy.
Education:
High School diploma required, Associate's or Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is a plus.
Attention to detail:
Exceptional numerical aptitude and organizational skills to meet strict client deadlines without errors.
Client Service Orientation:
Professional, empathetic communication skills to build relationships with clients and handle inquiries.
Confidentiality:
Strict adherence to ethical standards and date privacy, maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive financial information.
