None General Summary:
The Patient Financial Counselor is responsible for providing professional, courteous, and timely assistance to patients regarding billing, payments, and account questions. This position serves as an important point of contact between patients and the medical office's Billing Department and requires excellent customer service, attention to detail, confidentiality, and accuracy when handling financial information. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Answer incoming telephone calls and assist patients with billing and payment-related questions. Provide clear and courteous explanations of patient balances, statements, payments, and other billing matters. Take credit card payments over the telephone and accurately document payments to patient accounts. Direct patient questions or concerns to the appropriate Billing Department or clinical/administrative team member when additional assistance is needed. Maintain a professional and compassionate approach when communicating with patients regarding financial matters. Protect patient privacy and maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and office policies. Prepare and process remote deposits in accordance with established office procedures Open, identify and route billing-related correspondence, insurance correspondence, patient communications, checks, and other financial documents. Prepare and send correspondence to patients or appropriate internal team members as directed. Scan, file, and maintain documentation according to office procedures. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the Billing Supervisor Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous experience in a medical office, medical billing, patient financial services, healthcare customer service, or a similar environment preferred. Strong customer service and communication skills. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Skills Ability to utilize computerized software systems with strong keyboarding skills and speed. Ability to use multi-line phone system, including transferring calls Ability to handle confidential patient and financial information appropriately.

Standard office equipment including computers, copiers, printers, telephones, etc.
Work Environment:
Position is in a well-lit office environment.
Mental/Physical Requirements:
