Job Description

Who We Are KFG is a fee-only financial life planning firm. We care about our clients' well-being and aim to help them make their best decisions. We work as a team and hold ourselves to a high standard. The Job This is really two jobs in one. You'll spend about 60% of your time as a Lead Financial Planner. You'll spend about 40% of your time as Director of Client Operations. These percentages may fluctuate as the needs of the practice evolve. As a Lead Financial Planner, you'll manage a set of clients yourself. As Director of Client Operations, you'll determine how the client service team gets its work done. You will work closely with the Director of Financial Planning and Chief Investment Officer in executing both roles. What You'll Do as a Lead Financial Planner Be the main point of contact for your clients Build and review financial plans Meet with high-net-worth clients, in-person and virtually Review meeting agendas and meeting materials Coach and review the work of our Associate Financial Planners and Client Service Associates Follow through until each recommendation is completed Use our technology tools: eMoney, Holistiplan, Income Lab, Orion, Salesforce, Morningstar What You'll Do as the Director of Client Operations Document how work should get done. Then make sure people do it that way Constantly improve and evolve client service processes Build a quality-check step so mistakes get caught before they reach clients Make sure every promise made to a client turns into a task — with an owner and a due date Keep our CRM and planning software clean and consistent Hunt down small errors and delays. Fix the process, don't just fix the mistake Build a client service department that will help our clients love us What This Job Is Not Not payroll, human resources or bookkeeping Not a manager role over financial planning or investments — you coordinate, you don't run those departments Not IT — you fix how technology is used, not the computers themselves What We Need CFP® certification 5+ years as a client-facing financial planner A bachelor's or master's degree Keep client information confidential. Act with honesty and professionalism Strong analytical skills — you enjoy digging into the numbers A track record of building a process, getting people to follow it, and improving it over time A low tolerance for mistakes and delays Hands-on experience with paperwork, account operations, and moving client money Curiosity about technology and how to make it work better together The confidence to hold people to a standard, even when you're not their boss Strong follow-through. You meet deadlines and keep your word A hunger to keep learning and improving Experience coaching or supervising others Nice to Have Experience running operations at an RIA or planning firm Familiarity with EOS (the Entrepreneurial Operating System) Training in coaching and financial life planning Experience with our specific software and a custodian platform Where You'll Work This job is based in Rapid City, South Dakota. We're predominantly an in-person team, and we'd love for you to be local or willing to move here. For the right person, we'll consider a remote work situation. South Dakota has no personal income tax. Rapid City sits at the foot of the Black Hills — hiking, skiing, fishing, and more, all nearby.
