Job Description

Eligibility Counselor Position Summary:
Performs all functions necessary to ensure accurate and timely review of unfunded patient accounts, including application processing and follow-up until approved or denied. Processes internal and external referrals for additional assistance or follow-up.
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent.
Training and Experience :
Prior experience in medical field preferred. Knowledge of but not limited to admitting/registration process, receivables management, credit and collection laws, billing forms, medical billing regulations, insurance benefit calculations, HMO/PPO contracts, third party funding resources.
Job Knowledge:
General knowledge of medical business office practices. Strong communication skills. Basic understanding of business application software. Ability to maintain calm temperament under stressful conditions. Good math skills, deductive reasoning and general office machine operations.
Unusual Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Extended periods of sitting, extensive data entry, possible exposure to patients with infectious disease.
