Job Description

Investment Adviser Representative / Financial Advisor Chesapeake, Virginia | Full-Time, On-Site | Future Relocation Opportunity About Fitzwilliams Financial Fitzwilliams Financial and Fitzwilliams Wealth Management provide comprehensive financial planning across investments, retirement, tax strategy, insurance, and estate/legacy planning. Fitzwilliams Wealth Management is an SEC-registered investment adviser. Our advisors lead client relationships and financial planning, supported by specialized teams in tax, insurance, operations, marketing, and estate planning. Portfolio research, model management, and trading are handled by our dedicated CFA-led sub-adviser, Advantage Investing. That structure lets advisors focus where they create the most value: understanding clients, building strong plans, communicating clearly, and helping families make sound financial decisions. The Opportunity We are hiring an Investment Adviser Representative to train and build in our Chesapeake headquarters before relocating to lead a future expansion market. The anticipated relocation window is 6-24 months. The final location will be determined by the firm's growth priorities and the advisor's readiness. This is not a support-only planning role, and it is not a pure sales position. We need someone who can lead a client relationship from the first meeting through implementation and ongoing service: uncover the real issues, build a plan, explain it clearly, earn trust, close business, and stay accountable after the paperwork is complete. The right person is entrepreneurial, coachable, organized, and comfortable owning a meaningful client load. You will have real support and institutional resources behind you. You must know how to turn opportunity into long-term client relationships and assets under management. Responsibilities Train alongside firm leadership and the planning, investment, tax, insurance, and operations teams in Chesapeake. Lead discovery meetings and identify clients' goals, concerns, risk tolerance, family dynamics, tax considerations, and current financial structure. Build and present comprehensive financial plans covering retirement, investments, tax-aware strategies, insurance/risk management, estate coordination, and cash-flow planning. Serve as the primary advisor for assigned clients, delivering proactive communication, ongoing reviews, recommendations, and follow-through. Convert qualified prospects through a consultative, ethical, and disciplined sales process. Manage a growing client and planning workload while maintaining strong preparation, responsiveness, and follow-up. Work with Advantage Investing on portfolio implementation, investment communication, and client-specific planning considerations. This role is not responsible for day-to-day trading or portfolio management. Coordinate with internal tax, insurance, operations, marketing, and estate-planning partners to execute client strategies. Participate in seminars, client events, referral development, networking, and firm-supported business-development initiatives. Prepare to establish and lead a future market office by building community relationships, referral sources, and a durable local client base. Maintain complete and timely client records in accordance with firm policies and regulatory requirements. What Success Looks Like During the Chesapeake training period, you will demonstrate the ability to: Lead client meetings with confidence and sound judgment. Build accurate, actionable financial plans and communicate them in plain English. Earn and retain client trust while growing assets under management. Close appropriate new client relationships without compromising fit or fiduciary standards. Manage a meaningful volume of client relationships, planning work, and follow-up. Use the firm's team and resources well instead of trying to operate as a one-person shop. Show the discipline, maturity, character, and leadership needed to represent Fitzwilliams in a new market. Qualifications Active Investment Adviser Representative registration, or the ability to obtain and maintain registration promptly. Series 65 or Series 66 required; CFP®, ChFC®, CFA®, or comparable planning/investment credentials are strongly preferred. Experience leading client meetings, developing financial plans, gathering assets, and closing advisory relationships. Strong working knowledge of retirement planning, investments, risk management, insurance planning, and tax-aware planning concepts. The ability to explain sophisticated strategies clearly and build confidence without overselling. Proven ability to manage multiple client relationships, planning cases, follow-up items, and compliance responsibilities at once. High integrity, sound judgment, humility, accountability, work ethic, and genuine care for clients. Comfort with CRM, financial-planning software, portfolio-reporting tools, and structured follow-up systems. Bachelor's degree preferred. Willingness and ability to relocate within approximately 6-24 months for a firm-directed expansion opportunity. Why Fitzwilliams A true integrated-planning platform—not just investment management with a planning template attached. Dedicated CFA-led investment research and active portfolio management through Advantage Investing. Coordinated support across wealth management, tax, insurance, operations, marketing, and estate planning. A defined path from Chesapeake training to leading a future growth market. An entrepreneurial environment with high standards, client accountability, and room to build a durable career. Fitzwilliams Financial is an equal opportunity employer. Advisory services are provided through duly registered individuals of Fitzwilliams Wealth Management and are subject to applicable regulatory requirements.
